What do African Elephants and your WEEE have in common?

African ElephantYour Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) if recycled by ElectroCycle, unit 6, Antelope Industrial Estate, Rhydymwyn near Mold,  can have a positive impact on the plight of the African elephant.

ElectroCycle in partnership with Knowsley Safari Park have become proud sponsors of the charity known as Space for Giants.  ElectroCycle will donate £1 for every ton of WEEE they collect to this good cause thus as the business grows and develops so will the contributions to the Space for Giants project.

In 2006 Cambridge University was awarded a UK Darwin Initiative Grant to implement a three year project entitled ‘building capacity to alleviate human-elephant conflict in northern Kenya’ with Professor Bill Adams and Dr Max Graham as co-principal investigators. The project built on the PhD research of Max Graham on human-elephant conflict undertaken in Laikipia between 2002 and 2006.

Space for Giants is the legacy of the work undertaken by Cambridge University and was created to disseminate activities that were successful , carry forward some of the activities needed by local partner organisations and to implement new activities identified as important for elephant conservation in the region.
The ElectroCycle logo (see right) was designed with both elephants and WEEE in mind.  In his younger days, the chairman of the company worked protecting African elephants during the war of Idi Armin and has always held great admiration for these beautiful mammals.

Today the ElectroCycle logo communicates the companies dedication in three ways.  First it is the letter E for E-waste, secondly it is obviously an electric plug helping people to easily identify their WEEE.  If it has a plug on it, ElectroCycle will process it.  Finally the logo also represents the African elephant, a deliberate decision in the design process in readiness for the charitable support for Space for Giants.

Dr. Max Graham will be delivering a seminar on 14th December at Knowsley Safari Park about the plight of the African Elephant and the work undertaken by the Space for Giants project.  On this date ElectroCycle will be delivering one of their “EleCrates” to the park for attendees to bring their WEEE and will donate £1 for each item brought on that day.

“We are dedicated to raising money in every way we can” says David Burton, Chairman “as our company grows so will our donations to Space for Giants.”
The ElectroCycle factory in the Antelope Industrial estate operates a professional and ethical WEEE recycling facility.  The factory is a Designated Collection Facility (DCF) which means that members of the public are welcome to bring their WEEE for processing in the knowledge that not only are you recycling ethically, your WEEE will indeed be helping the plight of the African elephant.
